Thursday, June 14 (Dubrovnik/Prague)

We had an afternoon flight so we decided to sleep in today. After we got dressed, we walked down to the store and grabbed a pastry for breakfast. We came back and finished packing. Considering the temperature, the steep streets, and the task of hauling luggage, we decided to call an Uber to the bus station. From there it was a nice ride to the airport. We wanted to be sure and arrive in plenty of time so we got there early. We grabbed a sandwich at the airport (chicken salad) and tried some terrible cheesecake. We went through luggage check, thankful we were still under the 44 pound limit. Off to our next country, Prague.

We arrived in the evening and it was cool, only 64 degrees. We had heard the public transportation system in Prague is one of the best. We had trains, trams, buses, Metro. Every mode was easy to navigate and very clean. Upon arrival, we got on bus 119 and headed into the city. We then caught a metro and a tram – all with luggage in hand. Our room is directly across from a tram stop so very convenient. There is a KFC directly across the street and a big McDonalds down on the corner. Our fast food has invaded the world. All of the cities we have visited except the villages in Cinque Terre and Croatia had Hard Rock Cafes. In fact, neither were infested with chain restaurants.

We found our accommodations easily. It is another Airbnb and our host spoke very little English. The steep staircase up the second floor was a little challenging as it makes a curve up to the next floor and the handrail was a steel pipe screwed into the wall that looked very unstable. Thank goodness the host carried my luggage. The room was sufficient with a fairly large room. There’s a futon and queen size bed. We did not have air but a big open window with cooler air in Prague was all we needed. We have a kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, dishes and cookplate but it’s outside of our room and the host lives in the room across the kitchen. The fridge was not very cold so we did not use this area. We have to share the bathroom which is not my favorite but it turned out to be an okay situation. There is a washer and dryer downstairs which we thought would be nice to catch up on laundry before we left.

We got settled in our room and decided to go out and walk around before dinner. The city is very beautiful with ornate buildings throughout the city. The area we are staying in is busy with families and tourists walking the sidewalks. Prague was one of the few cities that was not bombed during WWII. We happened to pass a clothing store with a well-endowed female mannequin modeling a bathing suit, quite a contrast to our models. Further down we found a huge mall, the Palladium. Tired from our travels, we decided to find a place inside and then we’d further explore tomorrow. We both had a craving for Mexican food so we were excited when we found a Mexican restaurant inside the mall. There were pictures of the featured items and the pictures looked close to our version of Mexican food. Surprisingly, the food was good and close to home. After dinner we walked home. It had been a long day and tomorrow we had a full schedule of things we wanted to see.

This mannequin might have had a little plastic surgery.
We passed by this several times and cracked up every time.

WALKING ACTIVITY: 3.7 miles; 8,306 steps; 2 floors; 64 degrees F
